Swara CAC New Zealand Tour

Enjoy a night of soulful and rhythmic mix with the “EAST MEETS WEST – A Fusion Music Odyssey” concert presented by Swara Community Arts Center.

This will be a music performance involving the likes of Sitar genius Samuel J. Dass and tabla maestro Prakash Kandasamy.

Twelve world-class musicians and 6 dancers are coming from Malaysia. These include Samuel J Dass whose prowess on the Sitar is world renowned and tabla maestro Prakash Kandasamy who leads the rhythm section of the band.

The concert will include a wide range of captivating dances, ragas and rhythm patterns that will leave the audience mesmerised, riding a full band of emotions, evoking feelings of happiness, sadness and sheer delight. A Fusion concept that combines modern and classical rhythm. A programme not to be missed.

The SWARA Community Arts Center (SWARA CAC) consists of performing artistes who share the dream of teaching and nurturing the performing arts regardless of race, colour or creed. It believes in enriching the life of its students, community and society.

The mission of SWARA CAC is to fill the cultural landscape of their community and to build an artistic space for Malaysian youths, nurturing and supporting them for an extended term of concentrated artistic activity.

SWARA CAC is helmed by its Founder Patron Datuk Dr.Elamaran Sabapathy and President Samuel J Dass.

Swara Community Arts Centre Profile Video Released

Swara Community Arts Centre has released a new video which highlights their progress and achievements since its inception. The video puts together visuals and messaging by Swara's founders and advisors who form the pillars by which Swara is continuing its journey in ensuring that the arts and culture scene remains vibrant in Malaysia.

Amongst the personalities interviewed in the profile video is Datuk Dr.Elamaran Sabapathy, the founding patron of Swara Community Arts Centre and the man largely responsible for the rise of Swara as a serious platform to increase awareness on the importance of arts and culture in Malaysia.

He is amongst few who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the Swara Community Arts Centre blossoms into what it is today. Datuk Dr.Elamaran who is a former top executive in music industry has been a strong support not only financially but also has taken great personal interest driven by his passion for the arts and culture to ensure Swara fulfils its mission.

Also featured in the profile is the President of Swara, the esteemed sitarist Samuel J Dass. Samuel realising that it is time the baton is passed to the younger generation so they can create a name for themselves and keep the flames of traditional music burning was inspired to start Swara to achieve his mission of creating and nurturing young musicians and artists.

Oh My India - 27th & 28th June 2015

Oh My India is an assortment of dance performances which forms an enjoyable journey through all the states of India.

For the very first time, 10 different dances from the respective states of India is part of this magnificent performance that must be experienced by all.

The mesmerizing glorious cultural heritage of India is manifested through her many dance forms.

This show was performed by world class dancers from all over India with collaboration of aggregated Malaysian talents which can only be called brilliant.

Behind every breathtaking performance is hours and hours of dedication and determination to perfect every move. All the skills and lessons acquired throughout the years accumulate into the performances where the public gets to see their hard work pay off.

Swara steals the limelight with musical extravaganza

TWO major events in the month of September were the highlights for Swara Community Arts Centre.

First was the musical extravaganza 'Swara-Natya on Friday, Sept 12 at the Shantanand Auditorium at Temple of Fine Arts in Brickfields.

More than 600 guests were treated to captivating performances by Samuel J. Dass, Neha Mondal, Bavani Logeswaran, Getha Sankaran-Lam, Prakash Kandasamy and Pangasaasanii.

Arts Exhibition "Sama-Sama Malaysia" in collaboration with the Malaysian First Initiative (MFI) on Malaysia Day held in Swara CAC

On September 16, in conjunction with Malaysia Day, Swara held an arts exhibition entitled 'Sama-sama Malaysia' in collaboration with the Malaysian First Initiative (MFI).

MFI, helmed by its founder Datuk Dr. Elamaran Sabapathy, promotes racial unity among Malaysians from all walks of life.

It is envisioned that Malaysians, regardless of race and religion, can learn the ancient art of Indian music by coming to Swara, as well as participate in the activities organized by the Malaysian First Initiative to create a united and strong Malaysia.

“The country needs leaders who can connect and unite people from all races and make everyone feel at home,” MFI founder and chairman Datuk Dr Elamaran Sabapathy said in a press statement yesterday.

The Launch of Swara Community Arts Centre - A Community Project

A Community Arts Centre is a place where people can fulfil the need to serve others and do it in a way that they feel is the highest level in their profession.We believe that the study of music and arts enriches not only the life of the student but the community and society as well.

The mission of Swara Community Arts Centre is to develop and nurture an education in classical Indian music for all who have the passion to learn. Through the establishment of this Community Arts Centre, we hope to expand the horizons of music in the country by creating an awareness of and strengthening the art of Indian music and its presence in Malaysia. We aspire to fill the cultural landscape of our community and to build an artistic space for Malaysian youths, nurturing and supporting them for an extended term of concentrated artistic activity.

However, a single person, no matter how successful or passionate, cannot single-handedly fund and sustain a cultural institution of this size. Hence, the centre intends to leverage upon a community initiative to offer private music lessons at a reasonable cost and grant scholarships to children in need, providing free lessons and instruments.

By inviting the broader public to contribute to our early development, it helps to affirm and build the engaged community necessary for sustaining SWARA Community Arts Centre into the future.

With your contribution, you become a founder of the academy not only financially, but also conceptually, by partaking in the very experiences we hope to create for audiences and performers to interact. The funds from the community will cover the first phase of SWARA Community Arts Centre's development which is the acquisition of the space where the Centre will be situated.

Your pledge will contribute to SWARA's initial operation for the first 24 months after which we aspire to be a self sustaining community funded by the fee paying student population.

We aim to create a global community of collaborators and want you to be part of it. We hope that an equally passionate public will join in contributing to phase one of the project. Swara Community Arts Centre: Developing and Nurturing Classical Indian Music

Malaysia’s multi-ethnic and multicultural consists of people from different religions and races living in a peaceful and harmonious society has influenced its art and culture, in much the same way it has influenced its cuisine.

Therefore, the eclectic culture of the country is reflected in most of Malaysia’s music, dance, art and crafts.

Today, we pay tribute to a man who has silently played a role in ensuring the Malaysian arts scene remains alive and vibrant.

The man is Datuk Dr. Elamaran Sabapathy, Group Executive Chairman of Huat Hing Group, who was himself a former top executive of recording company more than two decades ago.

Datuk Dr. Elamaran has supported various arts groups and also several artistes during his days in the recording industry.

The low profile corporate figure is currently the patron and key person in setting up of Swara Community Arts Centre, a brainchild of his long-time friend and sitar maestro Samuel J. Dass.

The mission of Swara Community Arts Centre is to develop and nurture an education in both classical and contemporary music and arts for Malaysians from all walks of lives and races.

When completed, the centre will be a melting pot for Malaysians to learn, explore and perform in classical Indian music which dates back to more than 5,000 years.
